Creating a Trados 2014 translation memory

2. Note that the Home tab of the ribbon has changed to show TM-related functions. Click the New button, then select New Translation Memory.

Creating a Trados 2014 translation memory

3. In the Name text field of the New Translation Memory dialog box enter the name of your TM. It is good practice to use descriptive file names for translation memories, which reflect the language pair, e.g. EN-AR_Training.

4. The Location text field shows the default path in which the TM file will be stored. The TM file will have the extension SDLTM. As you need to select the newly-created TM later for translation, we recommend that you specify a location that you can find easily, e.g. your Desktop/Sample files.

Creating a Trados 2014 translation memory

5. To do this click the Browse button, select your preferred path in the Browse For Folder dialog box, and confirm with OK.

6. Make sure that English (United States) is selected in the Source Language dropdown list.

7. From the dropdown list Target Language select Arabic (Egypt).

8. Click the Finish button to create the TM.

9. On the following page a progress bar will indicate when the TM creation is completed. When this is the case, click the Close button.

Creating a Trados 2014 translation memory

The TM has now been created, and is displayed in the Navigation pane on the left-hand side. Since the newly-created TM is empty, there are no translation units (TUs) to display. In the following chapter you will learn how you use this TM for translation.

SDL Trados 2014 Keyboard shortcuts

Jan 4, 2015   //   by ADMIN   //   Trados  //  1 Comment
SDL Trados 2014 Keyboard shortcuts

SDL Trados 2014 Keyboard shortcuts are ergonomic and should be used as much as possible. And Trados lets you can customize the shortcuts.
There are shortcuts for the following categories:

  • All Views (shortcuts common to all views)
  • Category Window
  • Editor
  • Editor: QuickInsert Toolbar (which is really the QuickInsert group; for formatting and some special characters)
  • Editor: TM Window (for handling search results and TM matches)
  • Files (file handling; default state: no shortcuts)
  • Projects
  • Reports
  • Translation Memories

The shortcuts depend on which user profile you are using. There are slight differences between the default and the SDL Trados profile shortcuts; considerably more between the default and the SDLX shortcuts.

View shortcuts: There are two ways to do this:

1) In the Welcome view, go to Home > Show shortcuts (or Alt/F10, H, H). A windows opens where you can scroll through all shortcuts, and for each one the corresponding icon is shown. You can also print this list.

Trados 2014 shourtcut

SDL Trados Studio Shortcuts

2) Open File > Options (or Alt/F10, F, T) and expand Keyboard Shortcuts.

Trados 2011 shourtcut

Change, delete or create a shortcut: Open the shortcut window (File > Options (or Alt/F10, F, T) > Keyboard Shortcuts and select the de-sired category. Locate the action in question and change/delete the ex-isting key combination or add a new one. If you try to assign a shortcut which is already in use, the row will be highlighted in red and you will have to try another one. (It is alright to use the same shortcut in different categories except for conflicts with All Views or conflicts between the three Editor tables.)

Reset shortcuts: Click the Reset to Defaults button. This applies only to the category that is open.

Show all Trados 2014 shortcuts and you can download it (Trados 2014 shortcut):

The Quality Process we use

1. Project Analysis

The first step for most translation projects is the cost estimate (quote), which entails a full analysis to obtain an accurate word count for translation. This not only requires a complete set of source files with text content, but also a complete set of graphics files (screen captures and/or illustrations).

2. Project Preparation

The pre-processing stage starts by identifying translatable elements, and then, either locking the source code or exporting the elements to a separate file. The result of that stage, in addition to the glossary, style guide and additional contextual elements, is the localization kit, which is a guide to translators throughout their work on localization projects.

3. Production

We select the most appropriate people, from our professional translators, DTP or engineers, to carry out the task assigned.

4. Quality Assurance

Translation-Deals linguistic experts undertake a full review of the translated files linguistically and make sure that it faithfully reflects the meaning of the texts in their original version. In this stage, our technical team members hav e the responsibility of reviewing DTP and the technical tasks.

5. Project Delivery

The Project Manager verifies the final work prior to delivery and confirms that all instructions have been followed.

6. Client’s Follow-up

We implement all updates, objective feedback comments and suggestions from our clients after the project delivery.

Quality Assurance:-

Linguistic QA

Our linguistic experts make sure that all texts have been translated correctly and culturally adapted to the target audience. They also check that the style and formatting comply with the style guide. Special attention is given to indexing and its conformance to localized documentation.

Functional QA – Website Localization

Web authors/reviewers will ensure that the original code has remained intact and that the format has been maintained to resemble the source files.

Functional QA – Software and Help Localization

Our experts thoroughly check and test the software’s functionality in all required environments, and handle any GUI issues, such as dialog box resizing.
